I’m an independent woman and one of the things that I was set on DIY-ing for my wedding day was my own makeup. For the months leading up to the big day, I researched on Pinterest for keywords such as “natural dewy bridal makeup” and “light summer wedding makeup.” I pinned a few things, but nothing stood out to me as the look.
As chance would have it (or perhaps the sneaky Facebook algorithm), I saw a video on my timeline from the Charlotte Tilbury Facebook page featuring none other than the perfect summer bridal makeup. It didn’t take longer than a few moments of watching and I was already clicking “add to cart.”
My bridal makeup look consisted of about 90% Charlotte Tilbury products (featured in the handy Facebook video) and a few other standouts that I’ll get to in a min.
SKIN
I started off the morning of my wedding day with an SK-II Facial Treatment Mask that I’d kept in the fridge overnight. This mask is phenomenal at erasing your skin sins and bringing brightness back into your face. After leaving it on for 15 minutes, I took my jade roller out of the fridge and rolled the remaining essence into my skin.
Once my skin was prepped, I applied the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream using Charlotte’s famous “Tilbury tap” technique: a light pitter-patter with the tips of my fingers and the Magic Cream absorbed instantly into the skin. I followed the Magic Cream with a tiny bit of the Drunk Elephant Shaba Complex Eye Serum and tapped it all around my eye area with my ring finger.
To retain the perfect glow, I mixed together the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation and the Hollywood Flawless Filter and applied to my skin with a damp Beautyblender. Mixed together, these two gave me long-lasting, perfected, lit-from-within skin. If you haven’t tried the Hollywood Flawless Filter, it really is like an Instagram filter for your skin! Total heart eyes.
To brighten underneath my eyes, I used the Rodial Banana Lowlighter. Housed in a clicky, twist-up pen-brush, this undereye concealer is essentially the YSL Touché Eclat on steroids. I popped a little bit of it on and it looked like I’d actually slept 8 hours the night before.
To finish off the skin, I swept the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder over my t-zone, forehead, and under my eyes to set everything down. This is such a finely-milled pressed powder, so it becomes invisible once you sweep it on and never cakes. It’s already become a total staple in my makeup routine!
BROWS
As Charlotte always says, brows before vows! I changed up my usual brow routine for my bridal makeup look because I wanted something that had maximum staying power. I brushed up my bare brows with a clean spoolie and then applied the Dior Diorshow All-Day Brow Ink with an angled brow brush. This new brow product from Dior is like a watercolor stain for your brows, and you can build up the intensity of the shade or sheer it out, depending on the look you’re going for.
Then I touched up any sparse areas/areas that needed a bit more detail with my trusty Sephora Collection Retractable Brow Pencil. I’ve lost count at how many of these I’ve been through but we must be in double-digits by now! I finished off my brows with a tiny bit of the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in Clear. This product is my little secret to perfectly groomed brows because it never gets crunchy, crusty, or flaky like some other clear brow gels.
EYES
I curled my natural lashes with the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler before applying the Prime shade from Charlotte Tilbury’s The Dolce Vita Eyeshadow Palette all over my lids and underneath my brows. I then took the Enhance shade, a gorgeous rusty copper, and nestled it in the sockets of my eyes. Then, I took some of the Smoke shade and concentrated it on the outer corners of my eyes and underneath on the lower lash line – blending blending blending.
Next, I used the Charlotte Tilbury Rock n’ Kohl Eyeliner in Barbarella Brown and nestled it right along the upper lashline and upper waterline only. Using a pencil brush, I blended it so I wouldn’t have any harsh lines and slightly smudged it into a tiny feline flick on the outer corners of my eyes.
Using my ring finger, I picked up a good amount of the Pop shade in The Dolce Vita eyeshadow palette and pressed it into the center of my lids. This stunning, glittery copper-bronze almost makes it look like you have little lights dancing in your eyes.
Finally, I finished off my eyes with a set of falsies from Eylure x Nikki Phillippi. It took a few tries, but the trick to getting the eyelash glue to stick is squeezing a tiny bit on the back of your hand, dragging the strip lash through the glue and then letting it dry for about 30 seconds before carefully applying to your lids. I wear false lashes so seldom that it took me quite a while to get them on right!
FACE
Next, I applied the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze n’ Glow. Using my contour brush, I took the Bronze shade and popped it into the hollows under my cheekbones, temples, and jawline. I then took a smaller eyeshadow brush and placed the Bronze shade on either side of my nose and underneath the tip.
Using the Highlight shade, I applied it to the tops of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, and Cupid’s Bow. I love how soft the glow from this highlighter is – don’t get me wrong, this girl likes to look like a disco ball from time-to-time, but not on her wedding day.
Finishing off my face, I used the Charlotte Tilbury Cheek To Chic Blush in Sex on Fire. I applied it to my cheeks using Charlotte’s “swish and pop” method: I swirled my brush around in the outer shade and swept across my cheeks and cheekbones, and then lightly dabbed the same brush in the center shade and popped it right on the apples of my cheeks.
LIPS
I lined my lips with the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk, a beautiful nude-pink. I then used the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk straight from the artfully-sculpted bullet to fill in my lips.
FRAGRANCE
My bridal look would not be complete without a signature scent, selected specifically for the big day. I chose Byredo Bal D’Afrique, a magical, fleurotic, creamy scent that is unlike any fragrance I’ve sniffed before. I can’t wait to wear this scent for years to come and be reminded of how I felt on that day.
