I’ve been using Poshmark for a few months now for shopping (and ordered many new treasures to add to my wardrobe), but hadn’t taken the time to list any of my own items. Recently, however, I decided that in order to continue adding new pieces I needed to start curating my closet. I want to establish a better rotation in my wardrobe, so many of my listings are fairly recent purchases. Check out the items I’ve listed on Poshmark and shop my closet!
I’m all about a fabulous structured bag for most of the year, but summer time calls for something a bit more relaxed. There’s something so organic-yet-polished about a classic leather tote. I recently bought the Cuyana short leather tote in caramel for myself and carry it with me everywhere. It’s perfect for city living, trips to the farmers’ market, and lazy days at the beach. The optional gold foil monogramming adds something extra special and maintains an air of sophistication against the raw-edged leather.
No matter how many peplum tops or printed pants you may have, the foundation of every wardrobe rests on quality basics. Good-fitting, quality basics can be hard to find, however. Cheap fabrics can unravel or shrink in the wash, leaving you with misshapen, lumpy or frayed tanks and tees. Here are some of my favorite places to shop for the wardrobe basics that get you through every day and make your outfits look complete. Hover over each image to shop!
ASOS has a little bit of everything, but I especially like their casual tee dresses. So effortlessly cozy and perfect paired with ankle boots for running errands on sunny days.
I love to supplement my wardrobe with everyday basics from H&M. They have a great selection of affordable, easy-to-accessorize dresses appropriate for work. Their loose tanks are also crazy-cheap and look great with jean shorts.
My latest obsession (Sawyer loves them too!) is Uniqlo. They didn’t have a storefront anywhere in New England, so the store was new to me when I moved to SF. They have so many great basics, but I especially love their button-down oxfords (high-quality cotton and fits so well) and AIRism camisoles. I recommend ordering a size down so they’re snug and can double as shapewear.
I’m not sure if it’s possible to have too many of these Forever 21 jersey pencil skirts (I have 4… 5 maybe?). So easy to dress up or down and insanely affordable. For the best classic v-neck tee, I love Madewell (obviously). It has the perfect weight, draping, and never shrinks or stretches out no matter how many times you wash it.
What are some of your can’t-live-without wardrobe basics?
As I mentioned in my giveaway post, I went to the Poshmark event in San Francisco in March. Admittedly, I’d signed up for Poshmark about 6 months ago and then promptly forgot about it. When I heard about the event, I went because I knew there would be other bloggers and it would be a great way to network and meet new people in my new city. I was nervous (I went by myself!) but it ended up being a lot of fun and I met a few really cool people!
The event, of course, piqued my curiosity for Poshmark again and I fired up that old account to check it out. I soon found myself obsessed with the hunt for finding awesome clothing for really cheap. In a nutshell, it’s an online consignment store where you can easily filter for particular brands, sizes, colors, etc. It has a bit of an eBay thrill, with people constantly making offers and bartering with the seller. It’s my new favorite place to shop! The best part? They have an app! I spend way more time on it than I’d like to admit.
Keep reading to find out what I’ve bought and my favorite Poshmark closets!
Some of my favorite closets:
@hollyhannah: Tons of Madewell items deeply discounted (my personal fave!). I bought both the Madewell yellow silk blouse and the Phillip Lim 3.1 peplum top from her. Both arrived in exquisite condition – the Phillip Lim 3.1 top was new with tags!
@lilacrose: She arranges her items together in adorable outfit combos. It makes it hard not to buy everything! I bought those Gap pony-hair leopard mini wedges from her and she included a thank you note with the package. They were also new with tags!
@affableolive: Cute, brightly colored clothes and shoes for really reasonable prices. I have my eye on several items from her closet (don’t snatch them up before I do!).
@mjxl: Shot on pure white backgrounds, she lets each item from her closet shine. She also sells her own jewelry in her Poshmark closet! She’s been a featured seller on Poshmark’s twitter page.
@methodclothe: Dripping with statement necklaces, J.Crew, and Madewell clothing and shoes, her closet is swoon-worthy.
Navigating the sartorial waters of a business casual (yet erring on the side of business professional) working environment can be tricky. I’ve definitely made my fair share of missteps, but I’ve finally narrowed down my closet to a few classic pieces that I can easily mix and match. There’s no reason to feel confined to the basic black, white, and navy of the corporate world. I’ve come up with three fun-yet-professional examples of some working girl outfits from my very own closet!
With a dress this bold, go easy on the accessories with just a simple crystal necklace and nude patent leather pumps. I picked up this dress from the Gap because I loved the ultra-feminine shape juxtaposed with a slightly sporty pattern. Don’t forget the sheer pantyhose – I know it seems antiquated, but showing up bare-legged to a work environment is just plain unprofessional.
I’m not afraid to admit that I’m kind of obsessed with Old Navy. They recently came out with their Pixie trouser, which hits perfectly at the ankle bone and comes in fun-yet-work-friendly patterns and colors. I chose the trousers in a subtle black and white pattern and topped them with a silk blouse from Madewell. Finish the outfit with comfy suede flats in a bright color.
Nothing looks fresher than white-on-white for spring, so I chose a white silk blouse from Madewell and layered it under a white fitted blazer from H&M. Old Navy does it again with these ankle-zip skinny khakis, which are super comfy and super flattering on every body shape. Complete the look with these leopard calf-hair skimmers from Madewell.
Sartorially speaking, a girl can never have too many pairs of shoes. Practically, though, a girl realizes how many pairs of she has when she’s moving across the country… with just two suitcases (I just bought a bunch of those vacuum-sealed bags because I want to fit EVERYTHING). For the rest of you gals who aren’t moving, I recently found a fantastic dupe for Madewell’s Winston ankle boot. I love Madewell. I love ankle boots. I don’t love the price tag. Enter Crown Vintage’s Samantha bootie.
It was actually my friend Meghan who brought these to my attention. She had just purchased a pair of Crown Vintage ankle boots and she remarked how uncannily they resembled Madewell’s Winston boot. I have to say, I’m inclined to agree wholeheartedly. They are freakishly the same. But at $69.95, the Samantha boots are a lot easier to manage financially.
What do you think, gals? Would you get the look for less?
XO, J
P.S. I have it on good authority from Meghan that the Samantha boots are wickedly comfortable. Bonus!
