You’re Sleeping on a Silk Pillowcase, Right?

November 2, 2016

silk-pillowcase-2I really hope you clicked into this article thinking “OMG no… should I be?!” after reading the title, because this post is for you. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase is something that every person should experience. From softer, healthier hair to clearer skin, there are so many benefits to sleeping on silk. What what are you waiting for?silk-pillowcase-3

Tell me more.

Sleeping on silk does incredible things for your hair. I’ve been sleeping on a silk pillowcase (this one, if you’re curious) for about 6 months and have definitely noticed a difference in the shininess and softness of my hair. Gone are my Medusa mornings – I now wake up to healthy, bouncy waves and I’m not kidding. Silk reduces the amount of friction on your hair as you toss and turn throughout the night, so you wake up to less breakage, dullness, and frizziness.

Sleeping on silk does incredible things for your skin. We spend 8 hours a night with our faces pressed against a pillow. Sleep wrinkles are real and they’re coming for ya. Silk helps the delicate facial skin retain its moisture. Unlike cotton (an absorbent fiber that draws moisture), silk will not absorb natural moisture from your face (and hair!). I’ve been waking up to healthier, more luminous-looking skin, and I know it’s not just to the credit of my skincare regimen.

Your pillow is always on the cool side. Silk is a natural heat regulator that helps maintain the correct body temperature, and doesn’t conduct heat or static electricity like other fibers (looking at you, cotton). It will keep you refreshingly cool in the summer and perfectly warm in the winter. No need to flip to the cool side of the pillow anymore!

It straight up feels luxurious. There, I said it. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase will make you feel like an Egyptian queen. Is there anything more fabulous than that?

Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil: A Budget Dupe

September 12, 2016

hourglass-lip-oil-dupeHourglass is one of my favorite beauty brands; their products are a cosmetics masterpiece. I love the Mineral Veil Primer and the Ambient Lighting Powders are a staple in my makeup collection. I vacillated over buying the Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil for months, lured in by the thick, velvety texture and herbaceous scent but deterred by the hefty price tag. I finally caved in and treated myself to it, and kept it in my bag to use as a luxurious treat on my daily commute. However, a few weeks later, I came across another product that changed everything.

The Nude Lipsticks I’ve Been Wearing All Summer

August 31, 2016

nude-lipsticks-1A good man is hard to find. So is a good nude lip. Nude lipsticks usually walk the fine line of looking either too rosy or looking like you’re an extra on The Walking Dead. I personally enjoy staying on the cool/pink toned side of things, as I’m really not looking for an acting career. This summer, I’ve been wearing these four nude lip colors on nonstop rotation, with hardly even a glance at my usual summer brights. These lippies have a special way of making my lips look fuller, evening out my complexion, and meshing with every outfit I’m wearing. Magical.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of being a bridesmaid in my friend, Catherine’s, wedding! It was my first time being a bridesmaid and I had an absolutely phenomenal time. I created this little tutorial for the other bridesmaids to use  while they did their own makeup on the big day, but I didn’t get it posted in time! Hah. So very helpful.

june-favoritesHalf the year has already come and gone and I thought it was high time to put together a monthly favorites video! I’ve really been focusing my energy on skincare this past month and the results are paying off. A gentle cleanser that smells like roses, a special cucumber toner, and an organic sunscreen are coming out on top this month, rounded out by some of my other favorite beauty and haircare bits. Enjoy my June favorites and stay tuned for more to come!

Drugstore Beauty: Glowy Summer Makeup Tutorial

June 8, 2016

IMG_9282Firstly, can I just say that I’ve been loving creating YouTube videos? I feel like it’s unlocked a kind of insatiable creativity in me that’s both exciting and totally scary. Before I started YouTube, it felt like the Wild West, with most bloggers staying firmly in their own “blogging” lane. Many YouTubers were also first and foremost video creators, with a blog existing as their second or third platform. I’m excited to be joining what seems like only a handful of content creator crossovers (tongue-twister!), creating both beautiful blog content and YouTube integration!

Anyway, onto the makeup! When I first had the idea for this tutorial, I wasn’t intending to use all drugstore products. But, as with most happy accidents, I happened to pull out all budget-friendly options, making this video an ALL-DRUGSTORE makeup tutorial!

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is mix my foundation with a liquid highlighter; it provides a sheerer coverage and a beautiful lit-from-within glow. Some of these products are new to me, but a lot are old favorites that I keep coming back to again and again! I can’t wait to wear this makeup on repeat all summer.
