Refreshing Minty Limeade!

June 27, 2016

minty-limeade-1The taste of limeade takes me back to my childhood. I’m reminded of hot and sticky days when my mom used to make huge pitchers for us and we’d drink it outside in the shade during the Maine summertime, the condensation droplets creating rivulets of sweat as we fished out the occasional black fly from our glasses. It was the epitome of summer.

I recently recreated those memories by mixing up a batch of my own, infused with a little fresh mint. I love the idea of always having a big jug of something cold + tasty to drink in the fridge during the summer, so what better way to kick it off than with the ultimate summertime drink? This refreshing minty limeade comes together quickly and the flavors meld together the longer it rests. Recipe below!

Refreshing Minty Limeade

20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 12 limes
  • Simple syrup (1 cup sugar + 1 cup water)
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Filtered water

Instructions

  1. Start by rolling each lime on a hard surface with the heel of your hand for 30 seconds. This releases the juices inside and makes them easier to squeeze.
  2. Slice 10 limes in half and juice. You can use an electric juicer for this process – I don't own one so I juiced my limes by hand.
  3. Finely chop 6-7 fresh mint leaves. Make sure they are chopped very fine, as larger pieces may clog the spout of the pitcher.
  4. Combine the lime juice and chopped mint leaves in a small bowl and muddle. Allow the flavors to meld as you create your simple syrup.
  5. Combine the cup of water and the cup of sugar in a pan and stir over medium heat until sugar has completely dissolved.
  6. Fill the pitcher 3/4 of the way with filtered water and add the simple syrup and lime juice with mint. Stir to combine.
  7. Finish off the drink by thinly slicing the remaining 2 limes and stirring into the pitcher.
  8. Enjoy!

Summer Lookbook

June 22, 2016

summer-lookbook-outfit-1In honor of the third official day of summer, I’m busting out my favorite looks for summer in this brand new Summer Lookbook video! Even though it doesn’t get scorching in SF, out in the East Bay it’s been heating up. I’m excited to peel off the layers, put away the jackets, sweaters, and scarves, and unearth my summer clothes at last! One of my favorite things to do is mix pieces from summers past with some new threads.

Featuring an off-the-shoulder top paired with flare jeans that somehow seem retro and current at the same time, a blush eyelet dress with some unexpected kicks, and a denim-on-denim outfit that gives a wink to another decade. Here’s to many lazy summer days and nights to come!

The Easiest Way To Stay Hydrated

June 16, 2016

DSC_1089Just being honest here when I say that drinking water bores me to death. Yeah, yeah, I know – it’s important for a healthy body and complexion, etc. but that was never enough to get me to drink more. I used to live my life in a state of chronic dehydration, with every doctor and esthetician tsk-tsking me when I fessed up and told them the honest truth. MY BAD.

However, in the past few months I’ve changed my ways. I actually like staying hydrated and enjoy the benefits of clearer skin, clearer mind, and more energy. I’ve incorporated a few tricks into my routine to change my behavior and ultimately get me to drink more water. Read on for the easiest ways to stay hydrated from a reformed dehydrant.

Start-To-Finish: Hair Routine!

June 13, 2016

hair-routineWho says blondes have more fun?! They’re too busy to have fun because they’re constantly taking care of their hair! Newly blonded, I’m here with my start-to-finish hair routine! With my new, lightened locks, I have to be cognizant of how often I’m washing it, staying away from hot tools, and making sure it gets enough moisture to stay silky smooth.

Armed with the right tools and products, I’ve found a routine that works for my hair; a leave-in conditioner that adds just the right amount of moisture, a heat protectant that doesn’t weigh it down, and a blow dry creme that keeps every coil of frizz away. Since I only wash my hair about twice a week, I can ride this wash, blowout, and style for days!

Drugstore Beauty: Glowy Summer Makeup Tutorial

June 8, 2016

IMG_9282Firstly, can I just say that I’ve been loving creating YouTube videos? I feel like it’s unlocked a kind of insatiable creativity in me that’s both exciting and totally scary. Before I started YouTube, it felt like the Wild West, with most bloggers staying firmly in their own “blogging” lane. Many YouTubers were also first and foremost video creators, with a blog existing as their second or third platform. I’m excited to be joining what seems like only a handful of content creator crossovers (tongue-twister!), creating both beautiful blog content and YouTube integration!

Anyway, onto the makeup! When I first had the idea for this tutorial, I wasn’t intending to use all drugstore products. But, as with most happy accidents, I happened to pull out all budget-friendly options, making this video an ALL-DRUGSTORE makeup tutorial!

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is mix my foundation with a liquid highlighter; it provides a sheerer coverage and a beautiful lit-from-within glow. Some of these products are new to me, but a lot are old favorites that I keep coming back to again and again! I can’t wait to wear this makeup on repeat all summer.
