Go Buy Now: Living Proof Prime Style Extender

July 12, 2014

living-proof-prime-style-extender

I have a confession to make. I haven’t washed my hair in five days (I’m not gross, I swear!). For me, washing/drying/styling my hair is such a chore that I will find any possible way to avoid it. I refuse to be that girl who stays home on Friday night to “wash her hair,” even if my wild Friday nights consist of my couch + Netflix.

In the past, I went about three days between hair washings. For most people, that’s actually a pretty good length of time. By day three, my roots were oily and my scalp felt itchy and dirty. I bought the Living Proof Prime Style Extender on a whim about a month ago because I had heard good things and wanted to see if it was worth the hype (really I was just looking for another excuse not to wash my hair).

I mean… how could anything coming out of this sophisticated, matte black tube be bad? As it turns out, I wasn’t wrong. By day three, my hair still looked freshly washed; my roots weren’t oily and my scalp felt clean and didn’t itch. I happily sailed through day four with a few tiny spritzes of dry shampoo to add some lift. Day five was a breeze, too. In fact, I bet I could make it to day seven (!) with almost no complaints, but I’d like to wash my hair for my own peace of mind.

Trust me, if you hate washing/drying/styling your hair every day like I do, you need to go buy this product. It is truly unbelievable.

XO, J

P.S. I actually enjoy drying and styling my hair much more now that I have a fantastic new hair dryer, but I’m still really lazy/don’t want to fry my hair with excessive heat styling (but mostly just lazy).

Shop My Closet on Poshmark!

July 8, 2014

I’ve been using Poshmark for a few months now for shopping (and ordered many new treasures to add to my wardrobe), but hadn’t taken the time to list any of my own items. Recently, however, I decided that in order to continue adding new pieces I needed to start curating my closet. I want to establish a better rotation in my wardrobe, so many of my listings are fairly recent purchases. Check out the items I’ve listed on Poshmark and shop my closet!

Raspberry Ice Cream Pie

July 4, 2014

raspberry-ice-cream-pieHappy Independence Day! I hope you’re enjoying the holiday. I’m have plans to head to the beach and maybe grill up some burgers and dogs in the afternoon. If you’re looking for a quick, festive dessert to bring to a BBQ, try this sweet and creamy raspberry ice cream pie – there’s absolutely no baking involved. And who can resist a homemade graham cracker crust? ;)

Raspberry Ice Cream Pie (adapted from this recipe)

[line]

Filling:

  • 1 package raspberry Jell-O
  • 1.5 qt. vanilla ice cream, softened
  • 1 package fresh raspberries
  • 1 package fresh blueberries (optional – I added them for a festive touch!)

Crust:

  • 8-12 graham crackers (I used Trader Joe’s Cinnamon Grahams)
  • 6 Tbsp. butter, softened
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar (omit if using sugared graham crackers)

Directions:

  1. Make graham cracker crust by crushing the graham crackers in a large bowl (I used the bottom of a glass). Add the softened butter and mix until mixture is no longer sandy. Press into an 8″ cake round with the back of a spoon, making sure to cover the bottom and sides of the pan with a thick layer. Refrigerate crust for at least 15 minutes while preparing the filling.
  2. In a large bowl, add 2 cups boiling water to the package of raspberry Jell-O. Stir until dissolved (about 30 seconds). Then, quickly add the softened ice cream to the mixture, stirring until smooth. This process will be easier if you soften the ice cream beforehand and make sure to add when the water is still very hot.
  3. Carefully pour ice cream mixture into pan, filling all the way to the very top. Freeze for about 30 minutes and then add the fresh berries to the top of the pie. Put back in the freezer for at least 2 hours before serving.

A Date at the SF Zoo

July 2, 2014

The weather was beautiful this past weekend, so Sawyer and I decided to check out the SF zoo because we’d never been. We had a fun time walking around and came back with new memories, a bunch of photos, and sunburned noses (and maybe a few extra freckles for me).

ostrich-ibisOstriches have always been fascinating to me (given my obsession with birds). That huge body for such a tiny head…

DSC_0086How adorable is this little guy? We wanted to take him home with us.
